From a wee baby in Mary’s womb

To a Savior risen from the tomb–

He came… to save the lost.

.

Gethsemane’s anguish pressed its clutch

His Father’s heart, He surely touched–

He paid… the ultimate cost.

.

Nazareth bore a carpenter’s son

To a wooden cross, His onus done–

He redeemed… all our sins.

.

Heavenly host descended below

He would be raised up, God’s will to show–

He is… our offering.

.

Come, Emmanuel, this holy day

Bless our Nativity Feast we pray–

You command… that we must love.

.

Little holy Child, Our King of Kings

Release Your true love, help us sing–

Oh, sing… in heaven above!

I Can Fly!

.

I am a perpetual dreamer.  As a little girl, I believed in the little stories I read, the songs I sang, and the few movies I saw.  I could vanish for a whole day in the words of Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah:

“Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay
My, oh my, what a wonderful day
Plenty of sunshine headin’ my way
Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay

“Mister Bluebird’s on my shoulder
It’s the truth, it’s actual
Ev’rything is satisfactual
Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay
Wonderful feeling, wonderful day, yes sir!”

~ Ray Gilbert

 And rematerialize with that bluebird on my shoulder.  Every word etched its meaning into my spirit, and the sunshine did head my way.  It’s the truth…it’s actual.

Being little was the grandest time of life.  As little people we accepted things with simplicity and an “anything goes” attitude.  If we could imagine it, then “it” was real.  Do you remember playing cops and robbers?  Cowboys and Indians?  (I must interject here that I was a tomboy!) You could be Tonto or the Lone Ranger; you became Dick Tracy til you went to bed and woke up to a new identity.  Or you became Silver and could run faster than any other horse.  You even knew where to find the best sour grass in the whole world, that secret place out behind Grandpa’s barn.

I think my favorite hero to play was Superman.  There was this special field near my house that had a long narrow lay of the land, with a slight dip in the middle of it, perfect for lift-off.  I’d start at one end of it and run for all it was worth til I reached the middle.  There I would jump into the air, arms outstretched and nose to the clouds, believing with all my stubby legs that I was IN THE AIR…only to set down a few seconds later on the dusty dry ground.  But I kept trying and trying…and trying.  Oh, what fun, acting as these imaginary people.

One song especially affected my young life:  Somewhere over the Rainbow.

When all the world is a hopeless jumble
And the raindrops tumble all around,
Heaven opens a magic lane
When all the clouds darken up the skyway,
There’s a rainbow highway to be found
Leading from your window pane
To a place behind the sun,
Just a step beyond the rain

Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly.
Birds fly over the rainbow.
Why then, oh why can’t I?

 I sang that song with my heart, thinking that if I truly believed, I could fly over that rainbow with those bluebirds.  With childlike faith I DID fly over the rainbow.  It launched me into an imagined escape from the very troubled world in which I actually lived, an escape I desperately needed.

I still dream…every time I read a book, a poem, watch a movie, attend a play, hear Handel’s Messiah at Christmas time, and more.  Heaven does open, like the song trilled, to a place beyond the sun, just a step beyond the rain…to a whole new world that God calls heaven.  The Bible states that a heavenly home waits for everyone that has drawn their life on the account of Jesus Christ.  And it’s not a dream.  It is reality.  It’s signed, sealed and delivered…waiting for the nod of your head, the creaking open of the door to your heart, the throwing down of the ultimate freewill of one’s soul.  “Yes, Lord, I am yours.”

L’chaim!

O Holy Night

One of the most powerful, spirit-filled Christmas songs ever written!  Merry Christmas, everyone!

.

O Holy Night!

~Placide Cappeau

O holy night! The stars are brightly shining,

It is the night of our dear Saviour’s birth.

Long lay the world in sin and error pining,

‘Til He appear’d and the soul felt its worth.

A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices,

For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.

Fall on your knees! O hear the angel voices!

O night divine, O night when Christ was born;

O night divine, O night, O night Divine.

Led by the light of Faith serenely beaming,

With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand.

So led by light of a star sweetly gleaming,

Here come the wise men from Orient land.

The King of Kings lay thus in lowly manger;

In all our trials born to be our friend.

He knows our need, to our weakness is no stranger,

Behold your King! Before Him lowly bend!

Behold your King, Before Him lowly bend!

Truly He taught us to love one another;

His law is love and His gospel is peace.

Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother;

And in His name all oppression shall cease.

Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,

Let all within us praise His holy name.

Christ is the Lord! O praise His Name forever,

His power and glory evermore proclaim.

His power and glory evermore proclaim.

“.   .   .   also sat at Jesus’s feet and heard His word.”  (Luke 10:39)

“I paint,” cried Raphael.

“I build,“ was the boast of Michaelangelo.

“I rule,” cried Caesar.

“I sing,” cried Homer.

“I conquer,” cried Alexander.

.

“I seek and save,” cried Jesus Christ.

 .

Raphael could paint you beautiful paintings of the life of Christ   .   .   .

but could not save your soul

Michaelangelo could sculpt you a model of Christ, paint you an exquisite image of Christ, or construct you a building to house all these   .   .   .

but could not save your soul.

Caesar could rule the entire world for you   .   .   .

but could not save your soul.

Homer could lull you to sleep every night of your life   .   .   .

but could not save your soul.

Alexander could conquer all your enemies   .   .   .

but could not save your soul.

.

Jesus Christ says, “If you would believe on Me, you will see the glory of God.”

`

My friends, the world will tell you that seeing is believing.  Christ tells us that believing is seeing.  Believe on Christ and you will see the glory of the Lord.  You shall have eternal life in heaven with the entire family of God.

This Christmas open your heart to the greatest gift ever   .   .   .

receive eternity fully loaded with all the bells and whistles   .   .   .

the glories of almighty God.

Only believe!

Shalom

The bells are ringing, people singing
It’s Christmas time again
The hustle and bustle begins a-winging
Over the minds of men.

Think back to the time of our Lord’s birth
The angels proclaimed on high
No bells and people shopping on earth
Just a little baby’s cry.

Shepherds and wise men came to worship
This tiny newborn king
No endless, mindless shopping trip
To buy some inane thing.

Let’s keep the day of Christ-mas holy
A sacred spiritual day
A Child was born in a manger lowly
And a King was born this day.

Let’s call the “Santa” day of giving
A warm, salacious way
Of spreading cheer and robust living:
Let’s call it “Gifting Day!”

Christ-mas Day, on the other hand,
Is one of introspection
The celebration of a feast so grand
It’s the Spirit’s redirection!

Come, let us reason together, I say
Enjoy your Gifting Day
I’m of the mind to give thanks and pray
On this my Christ-mas Day.

A Child Is Born!

Excited faces glowed from the shepherd boys as they hurried to the place where the angels said a babe had been born.  This babe was Christ the Lord, the Savior of the world.   What could have been their thoughts as they approached the manger where this babe lay?  I’ve tried to put myself into their place as they stood looking upon this newly born baby.  How could this little one be the Savior, the Christ?   He’s just a baby.  No, the angels had told them this was Christ the Lord.  A Savior?  Yes!

What awe must have filled their hearts!  Did they merely nod to Mary and Joseph, or did they tell them the angels’ story?   Did they walk over to the manger, reach in and touch his hand?  Did they look him in the eye and spiritually bow down to their Lord? Did the Babe smile at their bewildered stares?  Oh, my…the wonder of it all.  I just can’t take it in.

There is a song that filled my spirit as I pondered all this:   Heaven Came Down and Glory Filled My Soul.  I know this melody is meant for repentance and redeeming grace, but I think my heart would have felt it as I looked down upon this baby boy in wonderment, trying to take it all in… especially the first verse and beginning of the chorus.

O what a wonderful, wonderful day – day I will never forget;
After I’d wandered in darkness away, Jesus my Saviour I met.
O what a tender, compassionate friend – He met the need of my heart;
Shadows dispelling, With joy I am telling, He made all the darkness depart.

Heaven came down and glory filled my soul!

`

I like Christmas!  It’s the grandest birthday party we’ll ever attend!

“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth, peace and goodwill to mankind.  Amen”

Heavenly Gift Card

Are you ready for Christmas?  I guess that depends on what I mean by “Christmas.”

Is your shopping done?  Have you gotten all the gifts on your list?

If not, you’re not ready for Christmas.  It takes quite an organized person to bring this about so early in the season.  You still have over two weeks to shop, select necessary items, make catalog purchases, order gifts online, and perhaps have time remaining to gift wrap, package, ship out, then take a deep breath of relief.  You’ve got it all in hand.  You’ve done your duty, to family and friends.

On the other handare you ready for Christmas?  Are you ready to celebrate the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ?

No shopping list needed, no gifts to buy, no weeks of shopping ahead, no hurrying and scurrying here and there in a frantic rush amid the masses.  All you need is an open heart and a listening ear.

Do you hear the music?  Listen…with your heart and spirit:

+

O little town of Bethlehem, how still we see thee lie;

Above thy deep and dreamless sleep the silent stars go by.

Yet in thy dark streets shineth the everlasting Light;

The hopes and fears of all the years are met in thee tonight.

+

For Christ is born of Mary; and gathered all above,

While mortals sleep, the angels keep their watch of wondering love.

O morning stars together proclaim the holy birth;

And praises sing to God the King, and peace to men on earth.

+

How silently, how silently the wondrous gift is given!

So God imparts to human hearts the blessings of His heaven.

No ear may hear His coming, but in this world of sin,

Where meek souls will receive Him, still the dear Christ enters in.

+

O holy Child of Bethlehem, descend to us, we pray;

Cast out our sin, and enter in, be born in us today.

We hear the Christmas angels the great glad tidings tell;

O come to us, abide with us, our Lord Emmanuel.  Amen

.

Father, we celebrate the birth of your Son, Jesus Christ…

Your Heavenly gift to us so long ago on that dark night in Bethlehem town.  No one heard His coming as Mary gave birth in a lowly manger.   The angels heralded the news to meek souls below, as they told us that a Savior was born, which was Christ our Lord.  As we sing praises and glory to you this Christmas day, we give thanks for this precious Child, our King.  Come into our hearts, abide with us, O Lord, be born in us today!  In His dear name we pray, amen.

Are you truly ready for Christmas?  May we join together and say a heartfelt amen to that.  AMEN!

Long Ago and Far Away

.

Once upon a long ago time

Time when days were dark

Dark was hunkered all around

Around old Jerusalem town

Town was ruled by ole Herod

Herod, nasty king of Judea

Judea held little Bethlehem

Bethlehem birthed a Child

Child was baby, Son of God

God so loved the whole world

World was lost in terrible sin

Sin was finally overcome

Overcome by the shed blood

Blood of Jesus, our Lord

Lord of heaven and earth

Earth saw the shining Light

Light chased the darkness

Darkness ran, driven away

Away it fled from the Son

Son rose up from the dead

Dead souls shall one day rise

Rise up into God’s heaven

Heaven is our eternal home

Home with God and Jesus

Jesus our Savior and King

Amen!
