Declaration

I heard the moaning of hills and valleys,
The discord beneath these United States;
Utter turmoil heaves up the sod and dirt,
While sacred blood and bones, it obliterates.

July fourth, seventeen hundred seventy-six,
A declaration was solemnly laid down,
Ending in the absolution of all our past
Allegiance to the tyrannical British Crown.

“When in the Course of human events…”
It published solemnly, and boldly declared
“…we hold these truths to be self-evident…”
(Down the barrel of a British cannon we stared.)

“…that all men are created equal,” it avowed
With “unalienable Rights,” by their creator,
“…Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
The British government soon shouted, “Traitor!”

We prayed “protection of divine Providence,
And mutually pledged each other our Lives,
Our Fortunes and our sacred Honor,” too;
For “freedom and independence” we strive.

May we gives thanks to God for His provision of such stalwart forefathers who began the framework for this great nation. God bless these United States!
