Lest We Forget …

O Beautiful for Spacious Skies

~Katherine Lee Bates

O beautiful for spacious skies,

For amber waves of grain,

For purple mountain majesties

Above the fruited plain!

America!  America!

God shed His grace on thee,

And crown thy good with brotherhood

From sea to shining seas!

O beautiful for heroes proved

In liberating strife,

Who more than self their country loved,

And mercy more than life!

America!  America!

May God thy gold refine

Till all success be nobleness

And every gain divine!

Veterans Day – November 11, 2015

Honor our veterans everywhere on this Veteran’s Day.  They “cared enough to send the very best” to fight our battles, keep the peace, and maintain our country’s defenses. Support them through our many agencies, local and national, encourage them with packages from home, and pray for them with earnest hearts. Some of them are in foreign lands, while others are right in your own backyard. Remember their families also who wait their safe return home.

Remember ALL our veterans, whether retired or active duty men and women. Many of them are in need of our help. Would you mind visiting those who are set aside in veteran’s hospitals, nursing homes, Soldier’s homes, or in their own homes?  Now is the time to report for our duty, making the rest of their lives comfortable and safe.  Let us lift them up with honor and respect and endow them with our love and prayers.

God bless America!

Memories Still in View

Veterans' Cemetery

I hung the flag out today

The grand red, white and blue

In memory of all those who died

For our land, so precious and true.

Their blood, sweat and nerve

Permeate every grain of sand

And surge within leaves and grass:

“Walk softly on this sacred land.”

The wind echoes with their cries

Do you hear them calling out?

From sea to shining seas they sound

Over hill and dale they shout.

Oh, say can you see

By the dawn’s early light,

The glorious red, white and blue?

It’s there! It’s within sight!

We’ll remember all they gave

For those who followed too;

They are owed such a great debt.

“Patriots, we’ll never forget you!”

As I raised our flag this Memorial day,
That grand red, white and blue,
I thought of all those who had died
For our country, so free and true.
Their precious blood, sweat and nerve
Permeate each golden grain of sand
And inhabit every leaf and grass:
Walk softly on this sacred land.
The wind still resonates their cries
Do you hear them calling out?
From sea to shining seas they sound
Over every hill and dale they shout:
“Oh, say can you see
By the dawn’s early light,
The glorious red, white and blue?
It’s still there! It’s within sight!”
We’ll hold dear your sacred trust
Endowed to us and our followers too;
Your sacrifices were not in vain!
Our hearts reiterate with tribute to you!

Let Freedom Ring . . .Let God Reign

My Country, ‘Tis of Thee

~Samuel P. Smith

My country, ‘tis of thee, sweet land of liberty,

O thee I sing;

Land where my fathers died,

Land of the pilgrims’ pride,

From every mountain-side

Let freedom ring.

Our fathers’ God, to Thee, Author of liberty,

To Thee we sing;

Long may our land be bright

With freedom’s holy light;

Protect us by Thy might,

Great God, our King.

God of Our Fathers, Whose Almighty Hand

~Daniel C. Roberts

Thy love divine hath led us in the past;

In this free land by Thee our lot is cast;

Be Thou our Ruler, Guardian, Guide and Stay;

Thy word our law, Thy paths our chosen way.

From war’s alarms, from deadly pestilence,

Be Thy strong arm our ever-sure defense;

Thy true religion in our hearts increase,

Thy bounteous goodness nourish us in peace.

Refresh Thy people on their toilsome way,

Lead us from night to never-ending day;

Fill all our lives with love and grace divine,

And glory, laud and praise be ever Thine.

Battle Hymn of the Republic

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord
He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored,
He has loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword
His truth is marching on.

Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
His truth is marching on.

I have seen Him in the watch-fires of a hundred circling camps
They have builded Him an altar in the evening dews and damps
I can read His righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps
His day is marching on.

I have read a fiery gospel writ in burnish`d rows of steel,
“As ye deal with my contemnors, so with you my grace shall deal;”
Let the Hero, born of woman, crush the serpent with his heel
Since God is marching on.

He has sounded from the trumpet that shall never call retreat
He is sifting out the hearts of men before His judgment-seat
Oh, be swift, my soul, to answer Him! Be jubilant, my feet!
Our God is marching on.

In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea,
With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me:
As He died to make men holy, let us die to make men free,
While God is marching on.

Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!

His truth is marching on!

God bless America

God bless America,Land that I love,

Stand beside her and guide her

Thru the night with a light from above.

From the mountains, to the prairies,
To the oceans white with foam,
God bless America,
My home, sweet home.
God bless America,
My home, sweet home.

Oh! Thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war’s desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav’n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.

Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: “In God is our trust.”
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
