Mighty God, While Angels Bless Thee

~Robert Robinson, 1774

Mighty God, while angels bless Thee

May a mortal sing Thy name?

Lord of men as well as angels,

Thou art every creature’s theme.

Lord of every land and nation,

Ancient of eternal days,

Sounded thru the wide creation

Be Thy just and endless praise.

Brightness of the Father’s glory,

Shall Thy praise unuttered lie?

Break, my tongue, such guilty silence!

Sing the Lord who came to die.

From the highest throne of glory

To the cross of deepest woe,

All to ransom guilty captives;

Flow my praise, forever flow!  Amen.

Psalm 92:1, 2

It is good to give thanks to the Lord

And to sing praises to Your name, O Most High;

To declare Your loving kindness in the morning

And Your faithfulness every night!

.

Your Word is settled in heaven, forever.  Your faithfulness endures to all generations.  Amen.

 +

Oh Lord, I shall always put my trust in Thee;

Preserve me with uprightness and integrity.

Show me Thy ways and teach me to see,

For I wait on Thee…I wait on Thee.

 +

Morning, noon, and night I pray

In the shadows of Thy wings let me stay.

Hear my voice when I cry aloud,

With head and knees humbly bowed.

 +

Have mercy on me and restore my soul,

‘Ere long this world takes its dreadful toll.

My hope is in Thee and shall always be,

For I wait on Thee…I wait on Thee.

+

Praise and glory to Thee I sing

For You, oh Lord, are my everything.

My heart is fixed on heaven above,

On Your great and eternal love.

+

Oh Lord, let my soul dwell at ease;

Grant me Your deep, everlasting peace.

Strengthen my heart; give me dignity,

For I wait on Thee…I wait on Thee.

SING PRAISES TO THE LORD.

LET ALL CREATION IN HEAVEN AND ON EARTH TREMBLE WITH PRAISE OF HIS MIGHT AND POWER.

SHUDDER AT THE SIGHT OF HIS MIGHTY UNDERTAKINGS; TREMBLE WITH JOY AND AWE AT HIS IMPECCABLE GREATNESS.

OFFER PRAISE TO HIM WITH EVERY APPROPRIATE MUSICAL INSTRUMENT.  DANCE TO THE MUSIC, DANCE BEFORE OUR HOLY GOD WITH ALL SACREDNESS AND DIGNITY.

EVERYTHING THAT BREATHES SHOULD PRAISE THE LORD.  PRAISE THE LORD!

Is your morning a bit cloudy; chilly and damp outside?  Winter’s icy strain is slowly slinking in, behind the fading parade of fall colors.  Soon we’ll feel tiny snowflakes lighting on our noses as they flaunt their arctic amusements.  There’s beauty ahead, along with frozen attitudes.  God blesses us with awesome scenery and wonders untold in the season of winter.  Embrace His gift and praise His name!

Whatever the season be, however downcast we feel–up or down, smiling or weeping, cry out with praise and joy—for we have life, memories, special moments that captured our hearts and spirits forever.  Nothing can take them away; blot off the teardrops, dust away the fears—God is still in control.

Whenever I find myself bemoaning my lot in life, I reach for an old hymnal atop my bookshelf.  Flipping through the well-worn pages, I head for the praise hymns.  Maybe I don’t know the melody, but I can read the words, and I’ll tune in to the Spirit and let the praises flow.  Before the first stanza is finished, I am refreshed and singing freely.

What a difference a praise makes!  Open your Bible to the psalms—they’re songs, you know.  Sing them, read them, out loud or silently from the heart.  They have a way of adjusting the strings of the heart, and you won’t be out of tune much longer.  O, I love the songs of the ancients!

Pause while you meditate on those songs.  How many millions of people have voiced the very same praises to our mighty God!  Join them and slip into that gospel choir row.  There’s a place for everyone, and when you sing from the heart, everyone is in tune.  Such a heavenly melody wafting up into the heavenlies.  And you’ve been a part of that offering to God.  That ought to lift your spirits, if nothing on earth ever can do.

Praise Him, praise Him, praise His holy name.  Amen!
