Slender stature, about 5 foot-four

Smiles flashing love to every child

Twinkling eyes, probing each heart

Hands nursing many a child’s hurt

.

Arms protecting little ones from harm

Vibrant aprons holding treats to eat

Baking the finest filled cookies about

Doting time for grandchildren at play

.

Nurturing interest in outdoor fun

Discovering those lucky 4-leaf clovers

Picking lilacs and planting those pansies

Joyfully sharing her cherished antique dolls

.

Letting grandchildren help with chores

Always dressed prim, proper and clean

Truly loved her family and they knew it–

.

This was my gramma and mighty protector

Thank you Lord for such a rich treasure

God’s angel in disguise and homeward bound

Far too early–I still lament her passing.

Cave Talk

Psalm 142:1-7

[A prayer of David when he was hiding in a cave from danger]

I earnestly pleaded with the Lord; loudly I begged Him sorely to help me.

My troubles gushed forth from my lips, baring to Him the obstacles that hindered my spirit.

He knew everything that overwhelmed me.  My enemies have set traps before me.

Not a soul was alongside me; I had no place to hide.  No one cared for my soul.

I prayed to the Lord,

“You are my refuge and provider of all my needs.  Listen to my cry, for I am crushed low.  Protect me from those who persecute me, for they are stronger than I.  Release my spirit from this hopelessness, so I can live again in joyful days.  Righteousness will surround me, for You will fill my spirit with abundant blessings.”

Amen.

Psalm 63

A psalm of David when he was in the wilderness of Judah

©Jeanne E Webster

O God, You are my God! I will meditate on You throughout the day.  My soul craves for You, my flesh aches for You in this dispirited and voracious world.

I have seen Your power and glory in the sanctuary and I praise Your eternal loving-kindness.

I will bless You and lift up my hands to you while I yet live.

My soul is satisfied with the richness of Your glory, and I shall joyfully praise You.

I think of You at the end of day and ponder Your majesty during the night hours.

I rejoice that You have rescued me and kept me in the shadow of Your wings.

My soul will pursue Your presence; Your might and power protect me.

Those that intend me harm shall be destroyed and eternally pay for their wrongs.

They will perish by the same devices they hurt others and will become as prey for wild animals.

The rulers of the world will rejoice in You but those that speak evil of You shall die.

Shalom

Praise to God

Psalm 146

Praise the Lord, oh my soul.

I will praise the Lord and sing praises to him as long as I live.

Don’t rely upon others because they cannot help you.

They live and die like you do.

The God of Jacob is your true hope and happiness.

He made heaven, earth, and the sea and all that is in it, and is trustworthy forever.

He relieves the oppressed, feeds the hungry and releases those who are captive.

He opens the eyes of the blind, relieves the depressed and loves the faithful.

He protects those who are alone, comforts the fatherless and widowed.

He tears apart the schemes of the wicked.

The Lord is in control forever, even to all generations.

Praise the Lord.
