Heavenly Flares

Thank you for the memories,
The joys and wonders of life,
The blessing of divine glories…
What peace abundantly rife!

You birthed me as a baby girl,
Swaddled up in my mother’s arms;
Tenderly kissed my golden curls
As I snuggled in her charms.

Thanks for all my family and friends,
Thanks for pretty flowers and weeds.
Sunshine and rain brought amends
As You sought to establish Your seeds.

Oh God, my sins no longer sting
They’re hung on the cross of Jesus.
He entered into my life to bring
A life so much more prestigious.

Your truth appeased my doubting heart;
I was healed by Your living waters.
Eternal life You did impart
To my spirit and many others.

I peered inside my very soul;
Faithfully, You are present there.
See that loving spirit glow…
A sweet heavenly flare!

Throned Upon the Awful Tree

Throned upon the awful tree,

King of grief, I watch with Thee

Darkness veils Thine anguished face;

None its lines of woe can trace:

None can tell what pangs unknown

Hold Thee silent and alone—

Silent through those three dread hours,

Wrestling with the evil powers,

Left alone with human sin,

Gloom around Thee and within,

Till th’ appointed time is nigh,

Till the Lamb of God may die.

Hark, that cry that peals aloud

Upward through the whelming cloud!

Thou, the Father’s only Son, Thou,

His own anointed One,

Thou dost ask Him—can it be?—

‘Why hast Thou forsaken Me?”

Lord, should fear and anguish roll

Darkly o’er my sinful soul,

Thou, who once was thus bereft

That Thine own might ne’er be left,

Teach me by that bitter cry

In the gloom to know Thee nigh.

birthday

Excited faces glowed as the shepherd boys scurried to the place where the angels had told them a babe had been born.  This babe was Christ the Lord, the Savior of the world.   I wonder what their thoughts were as they approached the manger where this babe lay.

I’ve tried to plunk myself into their place as they stood looking upon this newly born baby.  How could this little one be the Savior, the Christ?   He’s just a plain baby.  No, the angels had told them this was Christ the Lord.  A Savior?  Yes!

What awe must have filled their hearts!  Did they merely nod to Mary and Joseph, or did they tell them the angels’ story?   Did they bow low as they walked to the manger? Did they reach in and touch his hand?  Did they gaze into the eyes of their Lord in wonder? Did the Babe smile at their bewildered stares?  Oh, my…the wonder of it all.  I just can’t take it in.

There is a song that filled my spirit as I pondered all this:   Heaven Came Down and Glory Filled My Soul.  I know this melody is meant for repentance and redeeming grace, but I think my heart would have felt these words as I looked down upon this baby boy in wonderment, trying to take it all in… especially the first verse and beginning of the chorus.

“O what a wonderful, wonderful day – day I will never forget;
After I’d wandered in darkness away, Jesus my Savior I met.
O what a tender, compassionate friend – He met the need of my heart;
Shadows dispelling, With joy I am telling, He made all the darkness depart.

Heaven came down and glory filled my soul! ”

I love Christmas!  It’s the grandest birthday party we’ll ever attend!

“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth, peace and goodwill to mankind.

Amen”

Lord, Why All the Hurtin’?

.

A friend of mine just called to say
That her dear mama died.
I heard her words of sorrow, Lord,
And hung my head and cried:

refrain:

Lord, why all the hurtin’?
Lord, why all the hurtin’?
So much in life is painful, Lord,
So hear my prayer tonight.
~
I know your angels drew her mom
Home to be with you;
My friend is lost and weary, Lord,
She needs to know you too.

refrain:
~
This friend of mine, so full of love,
She just shines, she just shines…
Help her through this sad time, Lord,
For she’s a friend of mine.

refrain:
~
I love this friend so very much,
My soul mourns til I cry.
I lie awake alone at night,
Just wond’ring, wond’ring why.

Lord, why all the hurtin’?
Lord, please stop the hurtin’?
So much in life is painful, Lord,
Please hear my prayer tonight.

But I will hope continually

And will praise You yet more and more.

My mouth shall tell of Your righteousness

And Your salvation all the day.

For I do not know their limits.

I will go in the strength of the Lord God;

I will make mention of Your righteousness,

Of Yours only.

O God, You have taught me from my youth;

And to this day I declare Your wondrous works.

The Blood in Bud

“It’s spotless; that’s the one!”
Bellowed the most High Priests.
The lamb was lifted to the sun
An offering for the feast.

Bleats and bells choked with dust;
The throng gasping in awe.
Behind the veil, the ransom must
Complete the atonement law.

The Priest sprinkled the blood
Upon the altar of God.
Forgiveness appeared in bud,
Dispersing all sins abroad.

The Son’s blood was shed
Heart and spirit forsaken
A life taken in my stead
My soul did finally waken…

God’s love song fills the air:

“Unto you a Savior is born; a Sacrifice offered so rare.
Holy blood the altar adorns–May your souls be reborn!”
